Le souffle - breath, our initial energy of life.

The soft wind from the South, wafting us coolness.
The wind, dispersing seed and fertilizing the earth,
carrying cocoons afar and guiding the flight of birds.
The wind bearing distant sounds
causes the trees to murmur and the leaves to rustle,
ripples the sea and swells the sails.

The mountains weathered by the wind
have been displaced by cyclones and hurricanes.
The earth and sea are petrified,
The powerful wind terrifies,
drives animals into a headlong rush of fear.
The Sirocco carries the sand
from the Sahara desert across the sea.
The tempest, the Föhn, the Tramontana,
sway, bend and uproot the trees.
The Mistral roars and bellows its approach from afar.
The Typhoon fills human and beast with fear,
shakes and shatters houses,
shudders the sea, tosses the waves into the air
and is as dark as the night.
